SENOMYX, INC. ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF JOHN POYHONEN TO THE POSITION OF VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF BUSINESS OFFICER
La Jolla , CA ( October 7, 2003 ) – Senomyx, Inc. (www.senomyx.com) announced today that John W. Poyhonen has joined the Company as Vice President and Chief Business Officer. Mr. Poyhonen has over 20 years of diverse sales, marketing and general business experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and diagnostic industries. He will serve as a member of the Company's senior management team.

Prior to joining Senomyx, Mr. Poyhonen most recently served as Vice President of National Sales at Agouron Pharmaceuticals, a Pfizer Company located in San Diego. In addition, he previously held the positions of Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of National Accounts. While at Agouron, Mr. Poyhonen played a key role in developing Agouron's initial commercial capabilities to launch VIRACEPT® , an HIV protease inhibitor which became the most widely prescribed drug in its class with annual global sales exceeding $600 million. He also served as the commercial lead for the Company's Global Portfolio Strategy Group in HIV with responsibilities for strategic direction, business development, product positioning and life cycle management of the HIV portfolio.
Previously, Mr. Poyhonen held a variety of management positions at Hoeschst Marion Roussel, previously known as Marion Merrell Dow and Marion Laboratories, Inc. He received his BA degree in Marketing from Michigan State University and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Kansas.
