SENOMYX CO-FOUNDER AND SCIENTIFIC ADVISORY BOARD CHAIRMAN LUBERT STRYER, M.D., AWARDED NATIONAL MEDAL OF SCIENCE
Dr. Stryer to Receive the Nation’s Highest Scientific Honor
SAN DIEGO, CA - July 25, 2007 - Senomyx, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNMX), a leading company using proprietary technologies to discover and develop novel flavor ingredients for the packaged food and beverage industry, noted today that Lubert Stryer, M.D., a founder of the Company and Chairman of Senomyx's Scientific Advisory Board, has been named a laureate of the National Medal of Science, the nation's highest scientific honor. Dr. Stryer is being recognized for his achievements in a wide range of fields, including new techniques for studying proteins and cells.

"Dr. Stryer is renowned for his ability to convert his numerous research discoveries into practical applications. Dr. Stryer is Winzer Professor, Emeritus, in the School of Medicine and Professor of Neurobiology, Emeritus, at Stanford University. In July 1999, he took a full-time leave of absence from his professorship at Stanford University to found Senomyx and serve as the Company's initial Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Scientific Officer. In May 2001, Dr. Stryer returned to his professorship at Stanford University, although he maintains an active role as Chairman of the Senomyx Scientific Advisory Board.
Among other accomplishments, Dr. Stryer is credited with elucidating the G-protein cascade in vision, developing new fluorescence techniques for studying biomolecules and cells, and co-inventing the "DNA chip" used in genetic research. He is the author of Biochemistry, a textbook used widely throughout the world for more than twenty-five years.
"Dr. Stryer's scientific expertise has been instrumental for Senomyx," added Mark Zoller, Ph.D., Senomyx's Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Vice President of Discovery and Development. "In addition to being a co-founder of the Company, he continues to help guide our research and development activities and to advise us on scientific and technical issues. We are indebted to him and delighted that he will be receiving the National Medal of Science."
The National Medal of Science honors individuals for pioneering scientific research that enhances understanding of the world and leads to innovations and technologies that give the United States its global economic edge. Dr. Stryer is one of eight new laureates who will be presented with their medals at a White House ceremony on July 27.
